If you’re doing any kind of Local SEO, then you’re probably wondering what are LSI keywords? And more importantly, how can they help your business rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). For example, if you were targeting the keyword “local SEO Sydney,” you might also use LSI keywords such as “search engine optimization” or “SEO services.”
However, before we get into that, it’s important to understand that LSI keywords are not a ranking factor for Google. In other words, no matter how many LSI keywords you include on your website, it’s not going to have any impact on your search engine ranking. So, why bother with them at all?
What are LSI keywords and what do they do for SEO?
LSI keywords are related keywords. In other words, they’re synonyms of the main keyword you’re targeting.
When it comes to SEO and on-page SEO in particular, LSI keywords don’t have an impact on rankings. They do have an impact on user experience though!
LSI keywords help Google understand what your article is about and what context it was written in. This will help your post show up for more relevant searches and help provide users with more accurate results as well as relevant ads!
How to find LSI keywords for your website or blog post?
- Google AdWords Keyword Planner: This is one of the most popular free tools in SEO and it’s easy to use. You just need to enter a keyword or phrase, then select “Ads” as the objective when prompted. The tool will show a list of related keywords that you can use for your content marketing strategy.
- Google Search Console: Another way to find LSI keywords is through Google’s own Search Console (formerly known as Webmaster Tools). Go to https://www.google.com/search-console/. Sign in using your Gmail account, then click on “Search Traffic > Queries” under Search Traffic section on the left sidebar menu bar (see screenshot below). Then look at how people are searching for this topic on Google by clicking on any link under Top queries with high impressions (see screenshot below).
Why you don’t need to worry about using LSI keywords for your SEO efforts?
So, should you go out of your way to use LSI keywords?
If you’re trying to rank for a keyword on Google, you need to know the answer. And my answer is: no. LSI keywords don’t matter for SEO. In fact, they might even hurt your rankings by increasing competition around them (more on this later).
So why do so many people think that LSI keywords are important? Well, it turns out that back in 2009 Google said something about how they wanted to better understand synonyms and related terms when ranking pages. This led people to believe that Google uses these types of words as a signal for their algorithm – but this is not the case at all.
The benefits of using other types of keywords for your SEO campaigns
You should be using keywords relevant to the services or products you sell, as well as keywords that are specific to your business, location and industry. If you’re a plumber in Sydney and have just moved into an apartment block on the outskirts of Darling Point, then you’re probably going to want to target people searching for “plumbers in Paddington” or “plumbers near me”.
You should also be targeting long tail keywords (for example: how much does it cost to fix a leaky tap) that are relevant to your content on the page (find out how much it will cost before making an appointment).
Conclusion
The good news is that there are plenty of other types of keywords that you can use for your SEO campaign. The best thing about them? They don’t require any special effort on your part – just type what comes naturally! So if you’re looking for an easy way to boost your search rankings, don’t worry about LSI keywords just yet; focus on using more natural language instead (and keep reading our blog posts!).
